Web Design Advisory Council 2011-12

Thanks to everyone for coming to our annual SWC CIS Web Design Industry Advisory Council on December 6, 2011.  It was quite a pleasure to see and talk with you about your ideas and recommendations.  We enjoyed a lively discussion with 35 industry professionals and 2 students representing Club Web and 7 educators.  Many thanks to Dean Davis and  CIS Dept. Chair Tom Luibel for your support of our programs.  Thanks also to Professor Sandra Sands, who acted as our official note-taker.

Your contributions help to keep our programs viable and our students’ education state-of-the art.

Favorite WordPress Plugins

Debbie Lechner has provided us a list of her favorite WordPress plugins. I (Victor) have used many of them myself and can vouch for them. Try them out yourself and let us know what works for you. Also, let us know any new, cool ones.

My Favorite WordPress Plugins

  • Akismet (the most amazing comment spam blocker EVER! Register for a free API number to activate it.)
  • WP DB backup  (set it up to do automatic backups of your database and email them to you at website.backup@gmail.com fabulous security!)
  • Contact form 7 (nifty and easy contact form)
  • NextGEN Gallery (nice photo galleries with about 9 variations of skins)
  • GRAND FIAGallery (flashy gallery)
  • All in One SEO Pack (a little complex to fill out but great if you’re interested in SEO)
  • WP e-commerce  (just used this one for the first time and I like it very much)
  • Share and follow (all the social media buttons)
  • Ultimate Google Analytics (puts analytics on all your pages)
  • WP forum server (a nice forum if you want to add a discussion board)
  • Sitemap (uses shortcode to put a sitemap on your site)
  • Widget Logic (uses shortcode to put certain widgets on particular pages)
